Andrea McLean clarifies marriage counselling remark as she talks new move with husband

Loose Women star Andrea McLean, 50, recently opened up about going to marriage counselling with her husband Nick Feeney two years into their marriage. The presenter said she was surprised that her admission was perceived as a negative thing, when she believes it could help any relationship.

Everyone should go to marriage counselling, even if your relationship is super healthy

Andrea said she has no regrets in making the admission about her marriage on the show and insisted the pair are now better than ever.

She said: “I didn’t mind talking about it at all, what really annoyed me about that is it was taken out of context.”

Andrea has since told ITV viewers that she suffered a breakdown last year, which is the main reason why she and Nick signed up for counselling.

Clarifying how it helped the pair, she explained: “We did it because I was going through a tough time, obviously I’ve now said on air I was having a breakdown.

“It was so he could know how to help me, obviously I didn’t want to talk about that at the time.

“What I was saying was, in my experience marriage counselling is very helpful.

“I meant it in that context, the way it was reported was we were clearly having marriage difficulties.

“We weren’t having difficulties at all, he was being supportive of me.”

She added: “In my opinion everyone should go to marriage counselling, even if your relationship is super healthy because you learn ways to communicate better.”

The mother-of-two said she is now “feeling good” after her breakdown adding: “I meant what I said, I’m glad it [coronavirus pandemic] didn’t happen this time last year because it would’ve been a different story.”

Discussing how the pair have been getting on through the pandemic, Andrea laughed off reports that divorce rates are expected to increase after lockdown.

She added: “It’s been good, if anything I admire him more than I did before because I can see for myself, because I’m here all day, how hard he works, how much he cares and how much he believes in what we’re doing.”
