BBC Breakfast’s Sally Nugent seen without wedding ring after marriage split

Fawlty Towers: Jon Kay and Sally Nugent discuss sitcom’s return

Sally Nugent, 51, joined her co-host, Jon Kay, on the red sofa two days after it was reported that she and her husband Gavin Hawthorn, 52, have separated after 13 years.

She was seen not wearing her wedding ring while talking through the news stories of the day.

Despite her emotional turmoil, the star looked chic in a white dress and showed off her freshly painted red nails.

BBC Breakfast fans were delighted to see Sally on their screens and took to social media to offer their support to the star.

One said: “Morning Sally you are looking amazing again this morning so beautiful.”

A second said: “Disney should cast @sallynugent in the live-action ‘Hercules’ – her look is serving total Greek Goddess vibes this morning!”

While a third said: “You look great this morning Sally, head up x.”

Over the weekend reports surfaced that the couple, who have a teenage son, had split as their lives “moved in different directions”.

A source told MailOnline: “It’s very sad but they are no longer together.

“I think they tried to tough it out for quite a while as they didn’t want to split up if they could possibly help it for the sake of their son, but they clearly couldn’t make a go of it.

“They’ve both been very guarded about the reasons behind their growing apart, but it’s been plain for a while that they had been and now it’s obvious that they haven’t been able to resolve that despite clearly trying for some time.”

The outlet also reported that Gavin a former senior Pets at Home marketing executive, had moved out of their £1.3m home in Greater Manchester.

According to LinkedIn, Sally’s husband Gavin worked for Pets at Home in a senior marketing role before moving to take an investing opportunity at The Massage Company.

Sally replaced Louise Minchin in late 2021 on BBC Breakfast following a successful stint covering major sporting events including football World Cups, for the broadcaster.

At the time, she said of landing the role: “I’m absolutely thrilled to become the new presenter of BBC Breakfast and bring the nation the latest news, top entertainment guests and stories that matter every week.
