According to onlookers at Sunday’s show in Melbourne, Florida, Tiffany delivered a less than perfect performance. Her hit ‘I Think We’re Alone Now’, an 1987 cover of a Tommy James and The Shondells track, had once sent her straight to the number one spot in the charts in the USA.

This is my hit. I’ve been singing it right!

However last week her proudest career moment is said to have turned into a PR disaster after those in the audience criticised the wobbly rendition.

The 50-year-old appeared to challenge the way fans sang along to the classic, at one point screaming: “F**k you!”

Then she corrected them defiantly: “This is my hit. I’ve been singing it right.”

However in video footage obtained, she is heard singing hoarsely, skipping out lyrics and seeming to be abusive towards fans who had paid for a ticket to see her.

The Californian, once a teen idol and one of America’s golden girls, disappointed many of those who attended by not living up to the star they remembered.

“When this song pops in my head it takes me back to happy [times]. Now WTF am I supposed to do?”(sic) ‘Free My Grandma’ commented on the TMZ website after seeing the video.

However others made light of the disaster, with Jim Joynt joking: “How many times has she had to sing that damn song?

“She must absolutely hate it by now to the point of night terrors!”

The show in Florida marked the end of her Shadows tour, which has seen her perform more than a dozen times across the USA in the past month.

As the tour had drawn to a close, exhaustion had apparently got the better of her.

Tiffany’s rep speculated that the fans she was cursing at may have been heckling, after she experienced technical difficulties.

She added that the star “had lost her voice and got frustrated with her performance”.

Tiffany appeared in better spirits in a subsequent Instagram post, in a cleavage-baring top emblazoned with the words “Children Behave”.

Some fans have speculated that the photo, which she captioned: “Happy Sunday, hope you’re all behaving,” could be a mischievous nod to her onstage meltdown.

However, she has so far remained tight-lipped about the performance directly, giving very little away about her feelings surrounding it.

Tiffany has endured far more turbulent times in the past, including one infamous occasion when she tried to formally divorce her own parents.

Speaking during an episode of I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!, the star claimed that her mother had been an alcoholic and that her sisters had temporarily been taken into care.

She added that she had been advised to “cut them loose” to avoid damaging her career.

“My mum depended on me and my mum wouldn’t let me go, so I had to go to court,” she explained.

“Family is family but sometimes they do hurt you; they don’t mean to but they can and sometimes you have to fend for yourself.”
