Mike Tindall signalled to campmates to "back off" from making further comments on the Royal Family in last night’s episode of I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here!, a body language expert has suggested.
The former rugby player, 44, was seen in conversation with Boy George and Jill Scott in camp yesterday, when discussion turned to his famous relatives, leading him to become noticeably quiet.
While Mike has been open on the ITV show about his relationship with wife Zara Tindall, who is the granddaughter of the late Queen, he has remained tight-lipped about the rest of the Royal Family.
Body language expert Judi James observed that Mike gave “great passive responses” when George, 61, and Jill, 35, began discussing King Charles III in their conversation, as they quizzed him about the monarch’s age, before turning on next subject Prince William.
When asked by Jill if William, 40, would be watching the show, all Mike could manage in response was a slight smile and playful gasp, as George teased: "Of course he is. He's not watching it cause Mike's on it. He's watching it cause I'm on it.”
Speaking on the scene, Ms James told Metro: “[Mike’s] body language signals in the jungle suggest he is super-smart when it comes to switching to discretion mode. He tunes out when necessary but without looking precious or secretive.
“Lying on his back he produces some very low response signals when Jill starts to ask about Charles’s age, making it look as though she’s just chatting to the group rather than quizzing Mike personally.”
She continued: “When William is mentioned we get a rounding of the cheeks to suggest affection but still no “bite” from Mike in terms of adding to the conversation after his small noise of agreement over Charles’s age.
“These are great passive responses to warn the rest of the group to back off but without looking or sounding reproving.”
Ms James said that George “pushed” for a reaction out of Mike as he joked about William, only to receive an open-mouthed expression of “mock shock”.
She claimed that, despite his playful reaction, Mike still showed “no active signals of communication to do anything but gently close down the subject.”
“It ends with laughter but we can still see the others testing Mike’s parameters and being politely shown when to back off,” Ms James added.
