Yesterday, Taylor Swift again found herself trending on the Internet when she posted a message to her fans on her Tumblr page. In this message, Swift admitted how heartbroken she was to discover that celebrity manager, Scooter Braun, had acquired ownership to the masters of her first six albums through his purchase of Big Machine Records. Swift maintained that Braun had incessantly and publicly bullied her for years. Now Braun’s client, Justin Beiber, has clapped back at the 29-year-old songstress.
Kanye West & Kim Kardashian
One of the “bullying” instances that Swift refers to in her message involves Scooter’s clients Beiber and Kanye West. In the midst of the feud between Swift and West, Beiber posted a picture of the three of them and trolled Swift by referencing her in it. “Like when Kim Kardashian orchestrated an illegally recorded snippet of a phone call to be leaked and then Scooter got his two clients together to bully me online about it. (See photo)” Swift penned in her note citing an example of the bullying. Seeing that his name was brought up in the note, Beiber immediately chose to write a message of his own to Swift.
Justin Beiber
Taking to his Instagram, Beiber posted an old photo of him and Swift with a lengthy caption. Beiber opens with what seems to be a genuine apology to Swift before taking complete ownership of the post and insisting that Braun had absolutely nothing to do with the post. “Hey Taylor. First of all, I would like to apologize for that hurtful Instagram post. At the time I thought it was funny, but looking back it was distasteful and insensitive. I have to be honest though, it was my caption and my post that I screenshotted of Scooter and Kanye that said, “Taylor Swift what up.” He didn’t have anything to do with it and it wasn’t even a part of the conversation. In all actuality, he was the person who told me not to joke like that. Scooter has had your back since you graciously let me open up for you!” Beiber wrote.
Selena Gomez
The 25-year-old then goes on to cite that fact that he knows he and Swift have their differences. Of course, many of these differences are likely centered around Beiber’s treatment of Swift’s long-time bestie, Selena Gomez, when the pair were dating. He also acknowledges that Swift and Braun have their differences, but the way Swift went about voicing those differences publicly is egregious.
Scooter Braun
“As the years have passed we haven’t crossed paths and gotten to communicate our differences, hurts, or frustrations. So for you to take it to social media and get people to hate on Scooter isn’t fair. What were you trying to accomplish by posting that blog? Seems to me like it was to get sympathy. You also knew in posting that your fans would go and bully Scooter” the “Baby” singer accused.
Beiber wraps up his message with a profession of love for Swift before letting her know that he feels that she crossed a line in her handling of the situation. “Anyway, one thing I know is both Scooter and I love you. I feel like the only way to resolve conflict is through communication. So banter back and forth online, I don’t believe solves anything. I’m sure Scooter and I would love to talk to you and resolve any conflict, pain, or any feelings that need to be addressed. Neither Scooter or I have anything negative to say about you and we truly want the best for you. I don’t usually rebuttal things like this but when you try and deface someone I love’s character, that’s crossing a line…” Beiber ended.
Hailey Beiber
Of course, Beiber’s wife, Hailey Beiber, was quick to chime in on the drama also and defend her husband with a simple “gentleman” comment. Beiber certainly makes a great point about Swift addressing him and Scooter directly to try and solve their differences. However if Swift believes that Braun has been incessantly bullying her for years, and she has other valid examples of this, we can see why she’d be hesitant to reach out.
What’s next
Certainly, we know all too well (no pun intended) that everything that Swift does is strategic, so we have to believe that the decision to release this statement was calculated. But, with so much bad blood (okay, pun intended that time) between Swift and Braun, perhaps he should just give the woman what she wants and sell her masters to her. It would probably make life easier for all parties involved.
