Michael Jackson ‘wanted to marry Princess Diana’ and thought Charles was ‘jealous’ of him

Michael Jackson wanted to marryPrincess Diana and believedCharles was jealous of him, according to his former bodyguard.

The King of Pop thought Diana was the “ideal wife” and was one of the only people in the world who could understand what his life was like, close confidant Matt Fiddes has said.

It was said that Michael and Diana would talk to each other in late night phone calls between Neverland andKensington Palace as they both struggled with life in the limelight.

The pair met face-to-face just once – at Wembley Stadium during Jackson’s Bad tour in 1988.

Matt said that Michael made repeated attempts to meet Diana again but they were never able to make it happen.

Speaking toDaily Star Online, Matt added: “Michael told me he loved her, and he was in love with her, and he wanted to marry her. He told me she was his ideal wife.

“He felt she was the only person in the world who could understand his life in terms not being able to go anywhere, and the media stories that got out of hand.

“The intrusion into the private life, having no privacy whatsoever, the children being hounded. He felt an immediate bond with her as soon as they met.”

Matt went on to say Michael thought Diana’s ex-husband Prince Charles – now King – was "jealous" of him and saw him as a "threat”.

The bodyguard, who helped run Michael’s security for 10 years, also spoke of the pop star’s intense grief after Diana died from injuries sustained in a car crash in Paris in 1997.

Michael, who died in 2009, cancelled concerts out of respect for her and in a statement said: "The sudden loss of Diana, Princess of Wales, is one of the greatest tragedies of the millennium. She was a friend to the world.”

Speaking of their meeting in 1988, Michael told how he planned to leave his song 'Dirty Diana' out of the show – because it was about a wild groupie and he wanted to make the gig more appropriate for royalty.

But apparently Diana put a stop to his plans.

“Are you going to do Dirty Diana?” he revealed the Princess asked.

“So I said, ‘No, I took it out of the show because of you.’ She said ‘No! I want you to do it. Do it. Do the song’.”

Michael also opened up about his relationship with the Princess to reporters in Germany.

He said: “We were very close. She was extremely close by phone.

“Diana woke me up usually late at night… mostly after three in the morning! And then she held me for hours on the telephone. She talked about children, the press.”

Princess Diana’s life is currently chronicled in part by controversial Netflix drama The Crown – withrecently shot scenes showing her meeting homeless people with eldest son Prince William.
