Now that Mindy Kaling has a new baby in her home – she made the surprise announcement that she gave birth to a boy in Sept. 2020 – the former The Office star is going to have a lot more keeping her very busy.
But it’s all good. She has a foolproof way of relaxing at the end of each long day. It may sound strange, but it works for her.
Mindy Kaling just announced the birth of her son
In Oct. 2020, during an appearance on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” Kaling, 41, dropped the surprising news that she was pregnant during quarantine. And that she gave birth just the month before, in Sept. 2020.
As Colbert introduced her, he said to Kaling, “I got something I rarely get these days, which is good news. Which, if you wouldn’t mind sharing with our audience, I think they’d be thrilled to find out something extraordinary that nobody knows, up until this moment.”
With that lead-in, a delighted Kaling shared, “Yes! I’m telling it for the first time right now, it feels so strange, but I gave birth to a baby boy on Sept. 3.”
“This is news to a lot of people, it’s true,” she added.
Her preschooler’s reaction to the news
The Never Have I Ever executive producer’s son’s name is Spencer and, as Kaling told Colbert, her daughter Katherine was “very ambivalent, at first, to be generous. She was really worried about her toys getting taken.”
However, Kaling said, her daughter is “a huge fan, now that she’s met him.”
She was able to keep the pregnancy a secret, she explained, thanks to the pandemic and to the quarantine everyone has been keeping.
“No one saw me! There was so much heartbreak in the world that it felt strange to go out of my way to shine the light on some giant health information,” Kaling told the late-night show host.
Kaling shared her de-stressing activity in her new Amazon Original essay collection
Kaling has a lot going on lately. Not only a new baby, but also a series of new essays published by Amazon Original Stories called Nothing Like I Imagined.
In her essay titled “Big Shot,” Kaling talks about a hobby she enjoys that takes the edge off after the end of a long day. Now with a new baby, she will most likely be partaking in it even more than usual.
“At the very end of my day, around midnight or so, I’ve found that my favorite way to unwind is to wrap a present,” she writes.
“Wrapping gifts has always relaxed me,” she continued. “I’m not sure why. I’m kind of a high-strung person, and I think it just takes the edge off my day, plus it gives me a chance to use a little bit of visual creativity with almost no stakes. No one has ever gotten mad about a poorly wrapped gift.”
