Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Make TIME's 100 Most Influential People List

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s influence is infinite, according to TIME.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex appear together on a cover for the first time as part of the magazine’s annual Time100 list, which rounds up the world’s most powerful people who are working to change the world for the better. Fellow cover stars include Simone Biles, Billie Eilish, and Kate Winslet.

For the cover, Meghan appears in a chic monochromatic ensemble that includes a cream-hued blouse and matching high waist trousers, while Harry wears an all-black shirt and coordinating slacks. According to the outlet, the pair were selected to grace the list due to their dedication to activism and mental health advocacy, as well as Meghan’s lifelong commitment to advancing the lives of women and girls worldwide. The pair also wrote a profile in the new issue for fellow nominee Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, a Nigerian-American economist fighting for global vaccine equity.

While there is no accompanying profile for the couple’s cover shoot, their friend, founder of World Central Kitchen Chef Jose Andres did write a touching message in honor of the couple.

“They turn compassion into boots on the ground through their Archewell Foundation. They give voice to the voiceless through media production. Hand in hand with nonprofit partners, they take risks to help communities in need—offering mental-health support to Black women and girls in the U.S., and feeding those affected by natural disasters in India and the Caribbean,” wrote Andres. “In a world where everyone has an opinion about people they don’t know, the duke and duchess have compassion for the people they don’t know. They don’t just opine. They run toward the struggle.”

The new cover appears to officially symbolize a new start for the Sussexes, who reportedly are preparing for a new “era of visibility” once the COVID-19 pandemic allows.

“They’re a couple who do very well in those moments of human interaction. They need to be on the ground,” said Omid Scobie, co-author of Finding Freedom: Harry and Meghan and the Making of a Modern Royal Family, to People. “They say that the proof is in the pudding, and what we are about to see is that pudding.”
