Roman Kemp auditioned for Strictly Come Dancing with professional dancer Karen Hauer, he revealed today. The Capital FM presenter, who is currently sporting a walking boot due to a football injury, admitted that he couldn’t commit to the BBC One show, due to being injury prone and very busy with his radio show.

He went on to say that his family were known to suffer with “bad knees” and that was also a factor.

Roman’s admission came during an appearance on ITV breakfast show Lorraine.

Former Strictly star Ranvir Singh was presenting the programme while regular host Lorraine Kelly enjoyed a break.

The 28-year-old made a virtual appearance from his London radio studio alongside his dad Martin Kemp, who also shared his thoughts on the dancing competition.

Ranvir told the father and son duo that she couldn’t believe that they had never been on Strictly, when the topic of conversation turned to the popular dancing show.

Their chat followed the news that professor Chris Whitty, the Chief Medical Officer for England, had been tipped to star in the 2021 series.

“I don’t know how ready my dad will ever be considering his dad dance moves,” Roman said, mocking his father’s dancing skills.

“And also, do you know what? The Kemps have terrible knees.

“And this isn’t an excuse. We have very bad knees and I think it would just be horrendous,” he continued.

“You’ve got an injury at the moment haven’t you?” the presenter asked.

“I’ve got a pretty bad injury. I’m currently in a boot,” he explained, before trying to lift up his foot to show viewers at home.

“That’s a football injury. But I’m so injury prone.

“I think if I came from a radio show and went straight into rehearsals. I don’t think I’d ever be able to do it, if I’m totally honest,” he said.

Ranvir, who took part in last year’s competition, admitted that it was tough.

“It is hard work, I can tell you that.

“Have you ever been asked? Have you ever tried it?” she asked her guests.

“Yeah, I did the audition thing that they do. I danced with Karen [Hauer] and it was good fun but I just know that I couldn’t fully commit to it cause I have to do this show,” Roman revealed.

“And with those shows, you want the people who can fully commit to it and absolutely smash it,” he added.

Roman presents the Capital FM breakfast show everyday from 6am to 9am.

He is also back on television screens on Saturday and Sunday mornings with Martin and Roman’s Weekend Best on ITV.

“I love the show. I think it’s one of the best shows on TV but it’s not for me,” the former Spandau Ballet star said of Strictly.

“And to be honest with you, it shouldn’t be for Whitty as well, because he’s going to lose all of his credibility,” he added.
