Rylan Clarkhas said he wants to be a “little more real” and that his public persona has “different traits” compared to the other version of himself.
Speaking whilst promoting his memoir Ten: The Decade That Changed My Future, Rylan 33, spoke out about the impact of his real name, Ross, versus his stage name.
He said: "Looking back at the last year it has been good to introduce Ross to Rylan. My real name is Ross." He said that they are "two different people" and have "different traits".
"Rylan is all smiles, always in make-up. Ross is a bit more Peroni, one hand down the tracksuit. That is Ross," he said about the two aspects of his being.
The insight into his life came up while Rylan was in conversation with Claudia Winkleman at the Southbank Centre on Wednesday to promote his new memoir.
He said: "It is important to me as when I finished the book and did the Ross Meet Rylan chapter I think it was important to bring a bit more of me back.”
Rylan added that it is "so easy to get lost in this industry," with him teasing that he enjoys saying things that perhaps he shouldn't and that he likes "being [himself]."
He added: "I don't want to be frightened of being a little more real,” as he teased that he will be a bit more like Ross moving forward.
"Rylan is very slick and professional, and Ross is a bit different. So at the start of this year I was like 'Think a bit a little more Ross'," he explained at the event in London.
In his new book,Rylan opened up about the impact of his divorce to Dan Nealand how he made a suicide attempt.
Rylan said: “For the first time in my 32 years, I felt I couldn’t carry on no more.
“‘What’s the point?’ I thought. I’d lost what I thought was everything, the one thing I always wanted. A man I loved. A family of my own. And now it was gone.
“So I tried to end it. I won’t go into detail as I don’t think it’s fair on my mum, but thank God I was unsuccessful.”
At the same event the presenter discussed the physical health problems he has faced in the last couple of years.
He said: “Twice last year I ended up in the back of an ambulance because my heart failed.
“I just remember the shot going in and all of a sudden this feeling from the middle of your body, both ways, almost takes you over, and you just stop and my heart stopped.
“There's just seven faces and this bright light just looking at me. And then I took a breath. And they were like, 'He's in a normal rhythm'.”
“I was like, 'What the f**k is going on?',” he added.
