The Chase: Anne Hegerty wants man ‘who’s been around block’ after turning down female fans

Anne Hegerty discusses her taste in men on Loose Women

Anne Hegerty, 61, who appeared on Loose Women today, said many of her fans on The Chase are often “older women” who are “hoping” that she is a lesbian. However, The Governess star confirmed that she has a soft spot for older men, with her first-ever crush being American film actor Lee Marvin, and now she is seeking a boyfriend who has “been around the block a bit”.

The revelation from Anne came after Loose Women panellist Denise Welch asked: “Do you have a fanbase amongst younger men?”

Anne answered: “I have a fanbase amongst gay men, I don’t know what that proves, but most of my fans are women, most of them are older women.

“I think some of them are hoping I’m a lesbian, and I have to sort of let them down gently.”

The star described how as a teenager while her friends lusted after The Partridge Family star David Cassidy, she was more interested in Lee, who was 34 years her senior and died in 1987.

She continued: “Actually right from my teens, I was always into older men, to the concern of my mother.

“Everybody else my age went through a David Cassidy stage, I didn’t go through a David Cassidy stage. I went straight into a Lee Marvin stage.”

Nowadays however her ideal man is 74-year-old Tommy Lee Jones, actor who starred in smash hit movie Men in Black.

She revealed: “My ideal bloke is Tommy Lee Jones.”

Ruth Langsford questioned if Anne was now seriously looking for a partner, would her criteria remain the same.

The Governess answered: “Well he wouldn’t have to be necessarily older but he would be… he’d have been around the block a bit. “

Anne has spectrum disorder Autism and has in the past said that she would prefer to date someone who does not have the condition.

The television quiz personality has said she tends to love people who don’t exist in “real life”, due to struggles engaging with physical intimacy.

She revealed: “I think I would prefer not to be with someone with autism. It does depend on the bloke though, they are all so different.

“What I have found is that I do fall in love but it tends to not be with people I meet in real life.

“I fall in love with historical or fictional characters. People I can put a bit of distance between,” she added to OK! Magazine.

Anne has previously spoken about being diagnosed with Asperger Syndrome at the age of 45, when she appeared on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!.

The Chaser went on to say: “I get overwhelmed in the presence of actual people and everything shuts down. I’ve found that with sex, too.

“It’s like I can’t be fully in it. That much intimacy, I almost zone out.”

Back in 2018, it was reported that she had a boyfriend, however, she never confirmed that was the case.

Instead, she revealed she once dated an American man.

“I did use to have a Californian boyfriend whose mother was a DAR. Naturally, he was pro-immigration!” she tweeted in August 2017.

Beat The Chaser continues on ITV tonight at 9pm.
