Great Britain’s Princess Beatrice (and sister Princess Eugenie) may be best known in the States for the grandiose hats they rock to various royal events. In fact, the hoopla over Beatrice’s infamous “pretzel hat” to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s 2018 wedding apparently drove her to tears, as Eugenie told British Vogue. As the elder daughter of the scandal-prone Prince Andrew, Beatrice hasn’t been a stranger to public controversy.
This was evident at her own July 2020 wedding to Italian businessman Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi. Although grandparents Queen Elizabeth II and the late Prince Philip (with whom Beatrice shared a close bond) were present in the official royal photos of the occasion, per Town & Country, the father of the bride was not, drawing some unwanted attention.
Of course, Beatrice has also made positive headlines over the years — often for her close friendships with famous Hollywood names. Uber driver Dave Capellan, for instance, documented on Instagram the time he drove Beatrice and ex-boyfriend Dave Clark along with their pals Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher in 2015. “They were pretty hilarious,” Capellan told E!, revealing that the friends exchanged fun yachting stories during the ride. (Per People, Clark worked for the car company at that time.)
Beatrice’s relationship history — Clark included — is perhaps the most tabloid-worthy aspect of her life (outside her family’s seemingly never-ending drama, of course). Here are the men Beatrice has called “beau” prior to meeting Mozzi.
Princess Beatrice found true love after some heartbreaks
From run-ins with the law to familial disapprovals, Princess Beatrice’s dating history before her marriage to Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi was laden with soap-like plot twists. Per the U.K.’s Express, Beatrice began dating 23-year old American Paolo Liuzzo in 2005 while she was only 17. In 2006, the bombshell reveal dropped, per Metro, Liuzzo had previously been arrested and convicted for assault in connection to the killing of a fellow student. After a violation of his probation later that year, he and Beatrice broke it off. Liuzzo later told the Daily Mail in 2007 that he regularly had affairs throughout the course of their relationship. “I’m not a bad person. But… women are my flaw,” he confessed.
Given Liuzzo’s extreme bad-boy ways, Beatrice seemingly had found a reliable partner in her next relationship — with her ex-boyfriend of ten years, tech executive Dave Clark. According to the Daily Beast, given their coupling longevity (and perhaps his lack of a criminal record), Beatrice gave Clark an ultimatum to propose in 2017 — but alas, none came, and the two split. According to a Daily Mail source, Prince William could have been part of Clark’s stall to marry, having been “wary” of Clark and finding him “indiscreet.”
Beatrice might have truly found the one in Mozzi — after all, even his ex-fiancée (with whom he shares a son) told the Daily Mail in 2019, “I look forward to uniting our families.” Here’s to Beatrice’s happily-ever-after!
