balansa and Union Launch a '90s-Themed Capsule

Following a “Sound System” capsule with Reebok last month, balansa taps Union Tokyo for collaborative ’90s themed collection based on the now outdated cassette tape demos.

Cassette tapes were first introduced in 1962, enabling anyone to record audio tracks and compile mixtapes by themselves. Popularity for the devices peaked in the ’80s as Sony’s Walkman devices made music portable for the average person for the first time. The plastic units are now seen as a nostalgic cultural artifact and find their way on the backs of white and black Union Tokyo x Sound Shop balansa long-sleeve tees, T-shirts, hoodies, and cushions. The mixtape graphics feature “Sound Shop Balansa-Demo” writing, co-branding, and a hand-drawn dog illustration, while the front-side of the apparel pieces display “A BALANSA-DEMO” text.

The balansa x Union items can be purchased at the Union Tokyo store pop-up and website as well as the Balansa Busan offline and online stores beginning on November 19. Take a look at the campaign video below, featuring music from DJ Soulscape.
