There’s a reight problem brewin’ on Strictly at t’ moment wi’ Motsi Mabuse strugglin’ to git what’s bein’ said.
Yon fancy feet reckons she’s avin’ trouble understandin’ a couple o’ t’other folks accents.
Motsi’s a proper clever lassie and can talk in five other languages, but she’s ‘appenin’ on askin’ Craig Revel ‘orwood to ‘elp ‘er out.
Did you get any of that? Well, you’re not the only one.
Motsi Mabuse has revealed she can’t understand northern accents – so much so her co-star Craig Revel Horwood often has to subtly translate what contestants are saying on Strictly.
‘The thing is, you [Brits] all speak differently’ the South African-born dancer said on The Off Menu podcast, hosted by comedians Ed Gamble and James Acaster.
‘Every time I’m in the country I really have to concentrate.’
‘Some people I just don’t know… I’m just like, “Are we speaking the same language?” There’s a lot of accents here.’
‘On Strictly I really struggle with people from the North,’ she went on. ‘I’m like please can you translate, at this point. It’s so strong and I just don’t understand.’
When asked if Blackburn lass AJ Odudu proved to be particularly challenging, she replied: ‘Yes, yes, yes. But there’ve been quite a few people from the North so I’m always asking Craig.
‘I’m just trying to, you know, understand and keep positive. But it’s not easy.’
Motsi joined the Strictly Come Dancing judging panel in 2019 after being a huge hit on the German version called Let’s Dance.
She can actually speak five languages – three South African languages as well as English and German.
Strictly Come Dancing returns to BBC One later this year. Off Menu is available to download and stream now.
