KITH founder Ronnie Fieg recently released a public statement that emphasizes the brand’s commitment to diversity and inclusion in 2021. Fieg took to Instagram to outline some of the initiatives he and his team are planning in support of Black creatives and underprivileged youth.
The new statement addresses one that Fieg made over half a year ago when he expressed that “[he] can do better and that [KITH] can do better” to fight for equality. “Since then we’ve gone to work. I always pictured Kith as a medium to bring my childhood dreams to life. What I’ve realized is that using the brand as a platform to create change is more important than anything I ever dreamed of accomplishing,” wrote Fieg. “I’ve worked on changing what we do as a company and added the responsibility of giving back to a culture that has constantly influenced and inspired me. Not just now, but indefinitely.”
In the same post, Fieg introduced Sharifa Murdock as KITH’s new Chief of People, who will be responsible for the new initiatives. In honor of Martin Luther King Jr.’s iconic March on Washington, Fieg announced that KITH will be partnering with MLK III to raise funds to support his “continued activism and critical humanitarian work.” For Black History Month, KITH will be showcasing independent Black artists with a series of releases that will raise funds to support their work.
Fieg also revealed that there will be a second capsule with the estate of the Notorious B.I.G. where proceeds will go towards the Christopher Wallace Foundation to support education. Lastly, Fieg confirmed that at least 15 percent of the apparel available on KITH will come from Black designers. Fieg wrote in conclusion, “having people of color in senior positions leading these projects has been key and will continue. Thank you to Greg Betty and Marlon Beck for helping to bring them to life. Better in 2021.”
