One Direction star Liam Payne, 27, has split from his fiancée Maya Henry, 21.

Liam confessed he's broken off his engagement with Maya, and he opened up about the split on Steven Bartlett's podcast Diary of a CEO, where the star explained he feels like he needs to "work on himself" as he's discovered he's "not very good at relationships".

Entrepreneur Steven couldn't help but ask about the former One Direction star's love life after he accidentally let slip the words "former partner in lockdown" during their conversation.

"I am indeed [single]," Liam told the Social Chain founder. "I feel like more than anything at this point, I'm more disappointed in myself that I keep on hurting people."

Maya is a Texan model who has graced the pages of Vogue Ukraine, Glamour and Elle Romania. The stunning beauty has also tried her hand at acting, starring in Carte Blanche alongside Dylan Spouse.

However, Maya is not just a pretty face. According to Wonderland Magazine she is planning on becoming a human rights or personal injury lawyer after she finishes her studies.

Here’s a look inside Liam and Maya’s relationship …

First dating

Liam and Maya started dating in 2019, however it’s not known exactly when their romance began as they were dating in secret for months.

Liam posted a gushing message to girlfriend Maya thanking her for her support as he released his new single back in September 2019.

Taking to Twitter to share an image of himself hugging his new flame alongside the sweet tribute, the 26 year old penned: "Sometimes I don’t recognise this happy guy… sure glad you brought him back though.

"This has been my most amazing release week to date! Massive thank you to all my team…for helping."

Liam then turned the attention towards his girlfriend, finishing his lengthy message: "then last but not least this one Maya, for always keeping the biggest smile on my face through all the stress and making me realise how perfect my life really is love you all let’s stack this s**t up."

Opening up on his relationship with Maya on Kiss Breakfast around the same time, Liam – who split from Cheryl in July 2018 – said: "Yeah, she’s awesome…it’s kind of got to the point with my life, where I’m like, 'screw this. It’s not worth my happiness'.

"If someone is going to take a picture, someone is going to do something. The difference is with her, she’s so relaxed that it helps me relax in a situation…It’s been quite nice just going out.

"I’ve managed to explore a lot more of London than I ever have actually my life, which has been quite fun.

"My life has been quite normal recently, which has been a break. It’s good. I’m enjoying myself right now."

Split rumours

Liam and Maya were forced to deny claims that they’d split after six months together.

According to reports, Liam and Maya then began to keep their relationship off social media after speculation of their breakup.

A source told MailOnline at the time: “Maya and Liam are definitely still a couple and are very happy together.

“Both have been taking time off social media lately and enjoying each other’s company away from the spotlight.”

The Sun had claimed that the couple had broken up after “reevaluating” their relationship. A source close to the singer said: “Things between Liam and Maya had been rocky recently and they eventually decided to call it a day.

“He was extremely busy at the end of last year and when he eventually stopped, they were both able to re-evaluate exactly what they want.

“They decided to go their separate ways but he isn’t moping and wants to put it behind him.

“He has been telling people he is single and is looking to the future.”

According to Mail Online, Liam asked Maya, who he first met at a One Direction meet and greet concert in 2015, to marry him in the summer of 2020.

The pair looked as though they had something to celebrate as they stepped out recently to dine at Novikov, as Maya flashed an enormous ring on her left hand.

Maya looked incredible in a silky black slip dress with a leather jacket thrown over her shoulders with her ring on show as she clutched onto her handbag.

Liam looked equally stylish as he held hands with his new fiancée, sporting a silk patterned mustard shirt and black trousers.

The musician had clearly gone big when it came to the piece of jewellery Maya was sporting on her left ring finger, as the dazzling ring glistened in the evening.

The emerald cut diamond ring was believed to be around 25ct and is extremely rare, according to gemologist Alexandra Michell of Prestige Pawnbrokers.

Alexandra told OK! online about the ring at the time: "Maya’s engagement is a real show stopper.

"It's a lavish 20 to 25cts emerald cut diamond ring with a diamond cluster surround set in 18ct white gold.

"Diamonds which are cut into the emerald shape, are usually done so because they are extremely clean stones, and this type of cut really shows it off," she said.

And valuing the cost of the ring she added: "I would estimate that a stone such as this could be of D colour which is rare and highly sought after, and of flawless clarity.

"Judging by the size and quality I would imagine the price tag would be just as staggering, and could easily come in over £3,000,000!"

Maya was a fan of Liam’s long before they became a couple as she first met him at a meet and greet after a One Direction concert in 2015. However, they reportedly later reconnected at a Dolce & Gabbana gala dinner in Tremezzo, Lake Como.

Liam calls off engagement

Opening up about their split, Liam continued on Steven Bartlett's podcast Diary of a CEO: "I've just not been very good at relationships. And I know what my pattern of things is with relationships at this point. I'm just not very good at them so I just need to work on myself before I put myself on to somebody else."

Liam continued: "That's where I got to in my last relationship. I just wasn't giving a very good version of me anymore, that I didn't appreciate and I didn't like being," before admitting: "I can honestly say I feel better out of it.

The For You hitmaker, who recently revealed his hair transformation after getting rid of his long locks, went on: "I didn't feel good doing what I did but it had to happen. Just a corny way to say it was the best for us both. It just feels like that.

"I know what was the problem, I just need to sort myself out. I just hope she's happy."
