Royal fans are still talking about Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex‘s bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey and the treatment the couple claimed they received from the royal family.
The Sussexes alleged that a senior royal asked about their son Archie’s skin color before he was born, Prince Charles cut them off financially, and Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge made Meghan cry. This interview was broadcast while Harry’s grandfather Prince Philip was hospitalized and now many are wondering what the Duke of Edinburgh thinks of the claims the pair made.
Royals were trying to shield Philip from learning about the claims
On Feb. 17, Prince Philip was admitted to the King Edward VII Hospital in London to be treated for an infection. It was later revealed that the Duke of Edinburgh had to have a heart procedure.
Royal expert Katie Nicholl said that while Philip was recovering post-surgery, the family tried to protect him from the drama following the Sussexes’ interview.
At the time Nicholl told Australian media outlet 9Honey: “The family are very keen that he’s not aware of the full extent of the interview.” She added that the media coverage made it “impossible for him to completely avoid it… efforts were made to protect him from the full force of the fallout.”
After a month-long stay in the hospital, Buckingham Palace released a statement that the duke was discharged “following treatment for an infection and a successful procedure for a pre-existing condition. His Royal Highness wishes to thank all the medical staff who looked after him… and everyone who has sent their good wishes.”
Philip is reportedly ‘distraught’ over what the Sussexes alleged
It’s now believed that since he’s been home Philip has learned about everything that was said in the interview and is not happy with the turmoil surrounding his family.
“Prince Philip is not a man who suffers fools gladly. He certainly won’t be wallowing in his own medical woes. I think he will be pretty furious about what has been going on,” radio host Kevin O’Sullivan opined (via Express).
Former royal editor for The Sun Charlie Rae said: “I’m sure he now knows exactly what has been going on. Harry is one of the favorite grandchildren. Harry is very close to Philip and I think he is absolutely distraught that something like this has been allowed to happen. I don’t know how he is going to deal with it — if he can deal with it.”
Rae added that he thinks the royal family patriarch will leave it to William to iron out. The Duke of Cambridge is reportedly angry that details from his recent phone call with Harry were leaked to the press.
“From what I hear, William is absolutely furious that his conversation has been leaked to American TV personalities. He is the one who will have to sort this mess out. He is the one who will have to calm the waters,” Rae explained. “It is down to William in the royal family to try and smooth the path — it is a difficult job for him, very very difficult.”
