Savvy mum makes a living by sharing bargains and money-saving tips on Facebook

An entrepreneurial mum has forged a new career out of sharing money-saving tips online.

Hollie Hutchinson, from Hull, started posting advice online while she was on maternity leave.

She is now climbing her way up the blogging ladder and has already been nominated for five awards for her site.

Hollie has found success by sharing savvy saving secrets and bargain deals to fellow parents with her blog, ThriftyMum.

She told Hull Live : "When I was expecting my eldest son James, I was in a Facebook group for women expecting in the same month, I kept spotting freebies for pregnant women and shared them to the group."

It was one of the other mums who pushed the now-successful blogger into creating a website.

"One of the other mums-to-be said I needed my own website. She said all these offers and discounts needed to be in one place so she could find them at any time," she said.

With her second son born soon after her first, the blogger was able to utilise her time off to develop an income stream, separate from her main job.

"[I] found myself pretty much having two maternity leaves back to back," she said.

"This was a significant period to have off work but I'd done a lot of side hustles over the years (like professional mystery shopping) and made sure I continued when I was on maternity leave.

"When I talked to my new mum mates about how it could fit around having children they loved this idea. That's why my blog focuses on making money and saving money."

With many new parents worrying about the financial pressures that come with having children, Hollie started the blog to show that it's possible to still enjoy the little luxuries in life.

She earns most of her money through sponsored blog and social media posts.

Although not currently her main job, Hollie has the opportunity to pursue blogging full time in the future.

"My blog is a business with a healthy income…that's why my family, including my sons, work as a team on it because it allows us to afford the nice things like days out and holidays," she said.

Now, Hollie is shortlisted for five awards, from Best Money Saving Blog to Best Family and Money Blog in the UK.
