DEAR DEIDRE: I’M really worried about my daughter and grandkids – to the point that I’m considering contacting social services.

My daughter’s behaviour seems more erratic than ever. For example, last month she decided to take the kids on a last-minute trip to Disneyland.

She didn’t care that they’d miss a week of school, or that she was spending more than £2,000 at the drop of a hat.

She’s 35 and single, and I’m her 67-year-old dad.

DEIDRE SAYS: You’re right, this does sound very chaotic for your grandchildren.

Perhaps your daughter is struggling to juggle parenting two kids and running her home. That trip away may have been her way of escaping it all.

Sit her down and ask her how she’s feeling. Just having someone to open up to may help.

If you’re worried about her mental health or behaviour, encourage her to see her GP.

And maybe you could organise a regular day when you take the kids out or help in the home?
