Corrie star who shunned the spotlight after Strictly curse now lives on a farm

Coronation Street actor Jimi Mistry got caught up in the dreaded 'Strictly curse' during his time on the show but has since upped sticks and moved his life out of the limelight.

In 2010, Jimi competed in the eighth series of BBC One's Strictly Come Dancing, partnered with Flavia Cacace, with whom he got involved romantically with.

The couple were eliminated after week 6 but have since 2013 and have completely changed their career paths.

In true Strictly fashion, Jimi announced he had got together with partner Flavia Cacace – just weeks after she ended her previous relationship with her previous Strictly dance partner and former EastEnders star Matt DiAngelo.

Jimi – who played Kal Nazir in Coronation Street.- has since decided to leave the showbiz world behind and traded it all in for a quieter setup.

The couple now run a personal training business together and Jimi has since retrained as a chef.

The two of them live off-grid in the North Devon area and have found inner peace while living on their very own farm.

In his Corrie days, he played Leanne Battersby's fiancé Kal who was caught up in the fire drama at Victoria Court flats in the ITV soap back in May 2015.

After waving Leanne off to safety, a gas canister next to him exploded in the blaze – which was initially started by Tracy Barlow.

However, the soap star started out in The Square, as Jimi first had a role in BBC One's Eastenders where he played Fred Fonseca.

During his career, he has also had some other big film roles including East is East and Guy Ritchie's RocknRolla alongside Danny Glover and Blood Diamond opposite Leonardo DiCaprio.

But since shutting the door on showbiz, he has revealed that he has gone back to his passion for cooking and went to train at Leith’s School of Food and Wine in 2015.

In an interview with the Yorkshire Post, Jimi said: "I had been an actor for over 20 years, travelled the world and experienced pretty much everything an actor could, from Hollywood to soap and everything in-between… but I knew I needed a change."
