For the first nine years of her life, Lisa Marie Presley spent much of her time living with her father Elvis Presley at Graceland. And according to The King’s cousins, Priscilla would control how much chocolate, sweets and sugar Lisa consumed due to a history of diabetes in the family. But now in a new video, Memphis Mafia Kid Danny Smith has shared how he, his brother Joey and Lisa Marie knew where to find candy even when it was banned.
Speaking in his YouTube video below, the son of Elvis Presley’ cousin Billy Smith remembered being a kid at Graceland in the early 1970s.
Danny said: “When we were playing and stuff up there, we would always go in a lot of times and see Grandma Presley, Minnie Mae.
“In her room, she had like a little nightstand that had like drawers on it and in one of them…all she kept was candy.”
Elvis fans who’ve visited Graceland will know that Minnie Mae had Gladys’ old bedroom on the ground floor near the kitchen.
Danny remembered: “And when we’d go in there and… talk to her, of course, she’d always tell me and Joey her stories about daddy [Billy].
“She’d pull drawer open and it [had] peanut butter cups…every candy probably…she just kept it full. She’d always get us whatever we wanted.”
It turns out that Elvis’ grandmother also had a sweet tooth, often being seen swigging from a bottle of Pepsi cola.
Elsewhere in the video, Billy shared how both Aunt Delta and Elvis’ father Vernon loved chocolate and sweets, just like The King.
But Billy admitted candy wasn’t always laid out around the house as the family all cut down for the sake of their own health and Lisa’s.
Nevertheless, Danny added: “[Lisa Marie] had ways of getting candy and when we got candy she got candy!”
Express.co.uk recently took part in a virtual live tour of the Graceland mansion.
And during the experience, archivist Angie Marchese shared what changes are made when Lisa Marie arrives with her family for a visit.

The Elvis expert said: “The family…do not stay here at Graceland but they do come here and visit.
“They don’t use Elvis and Priscilla’s china, we do have new china which we’ve purchased for Lisa to use when she’s here.”
Angie also explained how two extra tables are set up next to the one in Graceland’s dining room, for when the family have meals together there.
The china Lisa Marie uses today is kept inside a drawer in Aunt Delta’s bedroom, while kitchen appliances are also turned on for the family.
After the tour ended, a fan asked Angie: “When Priscilla and Lisa Marie visit Graceland do they listen to records on the jukebox in the TV room and do any of the family members play either the piano in the Music Room or the one in the Racquetball court? And do they ever swim in the pool?”
The Graceland archivist replied: “They have listened to music in the house, but not in the jukebox on the record players.
“I have never seen any of the family play the pianos. But we do keep them tuned and clean to preserve them as instruments in case they want to.
“No swimming in the pool either. Their favourite thing to do is ride golf carts all over the property.”
