Meghan Markle last spoke to her sister Samantha Markle in late 2016, we can reveal.

The Duchess of Sussex, 40, previously told Oprah Winfrey that she grew up as an "only child" adding that she last saw her sister around 18 or 19 years ago.

However, Samantha insists that this is not the case and the pair were close while Meghan was growing up but became slightly distant when Prince Harry's wife found fame as Rachel Zane on the US legal drama, Suits.

While they may have no contact since Meghan married into the British Royal Family, Samantha, 56, explained they last spoke just five years ago.

Speaking to us at home in Florida, Samantha said: "I spoke to Megan in 2016, almost 2017, I came to be a worrywart over my dad, and she was in Canada.

"So I called her in Canada and I said, 'Look, I'm really worried about Dad, I haven't heard from him in a couple of days, if you hear from him first call me'."

The mum-of-three who holds an MA in Counselling went on to tell us: "We ended up having a talk and the only reason I hadn't seen her, and this should be clarified.

"Everyone says, 'Oh, Samantha's estranged, well, Samantha has had a long struggle with a disability trying to get through school and being a mum and that doesn't really allow me much time to be a jet setting sister."

"So the burden was on her, instead of her PR blaming family and saying, 'Oh, they weren't close', well, she was a jet setter with a lot of money, I was in dealing with a disability, she could have come to see me.

"She could have said, 'Babe, how are you doing? I'll be done filming suits next week, why don't I come to you? Because I know in a chair, I know it's hard for you.'

"So the world has been flocking me like what did you do for your sister and how come you didn't go see her? Well, how about it's really hard in a wheelchair."

Detailing her trip to London in 2018, Samantha explained: "People photographed me in London when I went to go there once in my life on my bucket list of travel, but let me tell you how hard it is to get on an aeroplane in an electric wheelchair, I mean I don't have the strength to push a regular chair.

"SShe was an adult she wasn't again, five or 12, she could have said, you know when Suits is done taping, I'll come to you."

Opening up about their heartbreaking final conversation, Samantha explained: "Well, long story short, we ended up talking and it was kind of nice when she said 'This is really great, I love you. Let's keep in touch,' and I thought she meant it, you know, but it was one of those fake conversations you know, 'Oh, let's do lunch.'

"As an older woman, as her older sister, I thought 'Wow, she's really maturing, she's sincere,' it was nice.

"Maybe just having normal conversations about life that don't involve Hollywood or money is becoming important to her because we had a simple conversation about normal life things.

"Maybe I made more out of that conversation, t meant something to me, but apparently it didn't mean something to her.

"That was the last time I spoke with her, I thought she was going to become a normal adult sister that I could have and just the opposite happened."
