The Weeknd *Finally* Revealed What's Been Hiding Under His Face Bandages in "Save Your Tears" Music Video

Pretty sure this is abundantly clear by now, but it has be shouted from the rooftops for the millionth time: The Weeknd is the gift that keeps on giving. Despite releasing his critically-acclaimed album After Hours almost a year ago (wow), The Weeknd has continued to deliver high quality content…and his newest offering, the music video for “Save Your Tears,” is no exception.

Perhaps the BIGGEST thing to note about the video is that the face bandages that The Weekend has been rocking since the 2020 American Music Awards are finally gone! Instead of the usual bloody nose or puffy eyes that we’ve grown accustomed to seeing The Weekend over the past year, his face is now filled to the brim with plastic. Kid you not:

While you were gawking at The Weeknd’s extremely botched plastic surgery job, you probably missed that he had a Selena Gomez lookalike in his video playing the role of the unmasked woman who wanted to shoot him in the head, but didn’t have the courage to. It’s subtle, but the woman in question bears a striking resemblance to Selena in her music video for “Dance Again.”

Not sure if this creative decision was supposed to be a commentary on their relationship (they dated from January 2017 to October 201), but FWIW, Selena and The Weeknd did end their relationship on relatively good terms.

“Something that I’m really proud of is that there’s such a true friendship [between me and The Weeknd],” Selena said in a 2017 interview with Billboard. “I truly have never experienced anything like that in my life. We ended it as best friends, and it was genuinely about encouraging and caring [for each other], and that was pretty remarkable for me.”

Other hidden nuggets of symbolism include The Weeknd picking up an award and chucking it across the room, which some has taken to be a “f*ck you” sign to the Grammy Awards for failing to give After Hours a single nomination.
