A Place in the Sun fans open-mouthed as couple rave over villa that 'looks like a care home'

A PLACE in the Sun viewers were left open-mouthed as a couple gushed over a villa that looked "like a care home".

Property expert Jean Johansson was helping newlyweds Debbie and John find their dream home in Spain's sunny Costa del Sol but fans were not impressed by one of the options.

The couple, originally from South Wales, were looking to make a permanent move to the town of Benalmádena.

With a budget of £250,000, their requirements included at least two bedrooms and space for their dogs Dolly and Betty.

As the Channel 4 host made her way through her list of prospective properties, it was only until they got to the third property that the couple's interest was clearly heightened.

As they took a look around the three-bed villa in Arroyo de la Miel, Debbie commented: "Nice size kitchen, the work top is lovely. I like the floor, love these tiles."

While John observed: "It's very homey."

And on the garden he said: "I wasn't expecting this size – our dogs will love it."

The walls of the property were painted in a crisp white throughout, with wooden worktops in the kitchen, plus blue and white floor tiles.

Jean was eager to hear their opinion on the villa and Debbie told her: "The room sizes are nice, the lounge is compact but it's lovely.

"It is homely and cosy, isn't it?"

"It just feels right," added John.

Unfortunately viewers didn't share their opinion and rushed to Twitter to comment.

One wrote: "Absolutely characterless #aplaceinthesun".

"Looks like a bungalow in Milton Keynes," added another.

While a third said: "Looks like a care home."

And it wasn't meant to be for Debbie and John as at the end of the show they couldn't decide on a property and decided to go home and do some more research.

A Place in the Sun airs weekdays at 3pm on Channel 4.
