Safiyya Vorjaree appeared on ITV's Lorraine to discuss her new book after her daughter's death last April and claimed that she knew she was "ready to go to heaven" on the day she passed, at just eight months old.

Safiyya shared her daughter Azaylia, who was her first child, with former football player Ashley Cain.

The newborn was diagnosed with a rare form of leukaemia at two months and her parents regularly updated fans on their daughter's health on Instagram .

Ashley and Safiyya raised £1.5 million for a trip to Singapore for their little girl to receive a potentially life-saving transplant, but unfortunately Azaylia died in April 2021.

Lorraine touched upon Azaylia's short life and her parent's work to tirelessly to raise awareness of her disease.

The couple were sent messages of support from many famous faces, including a short video from Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson.

Lorraine spoke to Safiyya about her daughter and she opened up about the day she died.

The presenter asked her: "You knew that her time had come, didn't you? You absolutely knew that, that day."

Safiyya replied: "I feel like it was a parental instinct, I'd never felt that before as I was a first time mother."

She continued: "I woke up in the morning and I went downstairs. I said: 'I feel like today's the day,' and I didn't say that any other day. I looked at Azaylia, she looked tired. She looked like she was ready to go to heaven. I felt like, as a mother, I knew that instantly when I woke up that morning."

Safiyya said that the night before her daughter died, she sang Whitney Houston's When You Believe as it was "their thing" and a way to "always keep the belief and hope".

When her daughter was "in transplant," Safiyya said that she sang to her to "carry her through".

Safiyya admitted that she believes there is a "higher purpose in life" and that if it "wasn't for the Azaylia foundation," she and Ashley "probably wouldn't be here".

Despite the fact that they are separated, Safiyya said that they will "always" work through this tough time together.

One fan on Twitter shared their support: "My heart goes out to Safiyya & Ashley. I can’t imagine the pain they are going through, losing Azaylia. They are both so strong."

Another called her a "beautiful mum," said that they could tell there was "so much love coming from her" and will "definitely be buying her book".
