Coronation Street icon Curly Watts returns to set and leaves fans begging for new role

Kevin Kennedy is heading back to the cobbles.

Kevin, 61, first starred on the Manchester-based soap in the 1980s, and continued on the show up until 2003.

Now, after 20 years away from Coronation Street, Kevin has teased a potential reprisal of his role as Curly Watts as he takes a break from performing Rock of Ages at the Manchester Opera House to visit his former co-stars.

The show is currently touring round the UK and is showing at the Opera House up until tomorrow, 18 March.

Ahead of heading to the northern city earlier this week, Kevin said, as per Manchester Evening News: “I've no doubt at all that the rumours will start when I'm back in Manchester."

“I usually pop into the studios to say hello to my mates in the cast and crew as well, and no doubt if anyone see me there, it will be the same sort of thing, people asking if I'm going back to Corrie. It's no bad thing, I'm very happy about it.”

He went on: “It's a very humbling experience for any actor, writer, poet or artist because you want your stuff to be remembered don't you? So I find it very humbling that people still remember Curly and want him back.”

Away from the cobbles, Kevin has already reunited with former co-star Angela Lonsdale.

Police sergeant Emma, played by Angela, arrived on the cobbles back in 2000 and left in 2003 after being offered a promotion in Newcastle.

She was married to Curly, portrayed by Kevin from 1983, and they had one child together, Ben.

Earlier this week, Angela, 53, enjoyed a night out in Manchester where she supported her on-screen husband Kevin in the Rock of Ages musical on Wednesday.

The two reunited for a sweet selfie, with Angela posting it to her two-thousand followers with the caption: “Reunited with my corrie hubby @realkevinkennedy Break a leg pet!”

The sweet snap sparked fans to call for both of them to return to Weatherfield.

“I think u should both come back to Corrie ….. take over the rovers return….x”, said one person, as another wrote: “Watching you both on Classic Corrie at the moment – it really was the Golden era of Corrie with terrific storylines and legendary characters; Jack & Vera, Fred, Emily, Shelley, Gina, Karen, Norris, Les, Janice, Ashley & Maxine and Martin!"

While Kevin exited the soap back in 2003, the fan-favourite went on to make a brief cameo on the soap back in 2014 as a tour guide.
