Emmerdale star confirms soap return after 18 months as she reunites with co-star

Emmerdale star Amy Walsh confirmed she has returned to the ITV soap after an 18-month break.

The actress, 36, has starred as Tracy Metcalfe since 2014 but the character left the Dales in January 2022 after accepting a job offer in Nottingham.

Her departure was only temporary however, as she headed on maternity leave following the birth of her first child; Bonnie, with EastEnders star Toby-Alexander Smith.

18 months later, the soap star announced to her 163,000 Instagram followers that she had returned as the fan favourite character.

Sharing a snap holding Bonnie's hand, Amy shared some words of encouragement for parents who feel guilty about returning to work.

"Morning snuggles before mama goes to work this morning. For all the parents out there going back to work and leaving their babies…stay strong, we've got this", she penned alongside the sweet photo.

A few hours later, Amy posted a snap from the Emmerdale set as she reunited with co-star Roxi Shahidi, who plays Leyla Harding.

Throwing down on our lunch break just like the old days was the highlight of my day" followed by the hashtags #yogabuddies and #likenotimehas passed," she captioned the snap.

Tracy briefly returned to the village as part of the soap's 50th anniversary in October.

Explaining her return, Amy admitted she was thrilled to be invited back but wasn't ready to return permanently.

She said: “It was lovely to be invited back for the 50th. When I was going on maternity leave Jane (Hudson), the executive producer, mentioned it was all happening around August and September and said if I wanted to be a part of it to let her know but when it came to it, I just wasn’t ready to come back full-time.

“She very kindly offered to write me in and back out again so I didn’t have to cut my maternity leave short but I still didn’t miss out on the 50th celebrations so it was win-win!”

Amy added: "It’s been really lovely seeing everyone again and being able to bring Bonnie into work to meet everyone as we’re based in London now, so haven’t been back before now."
