Let’s be honest here: celebrities becoming U.S. politicians is something we should keep firmly in the past…but what about a prince? In season 2 of Peacock’s Saved by the Bell revival, the show writes that Prince Harry becomes the Governor of California after Zack Morris loses his election for a second term.
Zack was governor during the pandemic (which is also in the show), and Saved by the Bell takes an opportunity to poke a little fun when talking about his loss to a British prince. “Well, you did the right thing. I mean, it’s not your fault Californians vote for whoever is the most famous,” Slater says.
“Yeah, but Governor Prince Harry is doing a pretty good job,” Zack replies.
While this might be a good scenario for the future of California, JSYK Prince Harry actually isn’t even eligible to run IRL since he’s not a U.S. citizen.
Even so, rumors about either Meghan Markle or Prince Harry running for some sort of political office have been swirling for a long time now. Back in September 2020, murmurs broke that Meghan Markle was seriously considering running for U.S. president.
Vanity Fair’s royal reporter Katie Nicholl spoke with “a close friend of Meghan’s” who claimed, “One of the reasons she was so keen not to give up her American citizenship was so she had the option to go into politics. I think if Meghan and Harry ever gave up their titles, she would seriously consider running for president.”
So take that as you will, folks. For now though, it looks like we can all just pretend this alternate Saved by the Bell timeline is true as we watch our favorite Bayside students head back to school for another wild year.
