Strictly Come Dancing will see a new face join the judging panel on Saturday night as singer Cynthia Ervio steps in for Craig Revel Horwood. Regular judge Craig will be absent from the BBC dance contest this week after testing positive for Covid-19. While he self-isolates, Cynthia will temporarily be taking Craig’s place on the panel. In a recent interview, former Strictly professional Kevin Clifton has shared his thoughts on the change to the judging panel.
On Saturday morning Stacey Dooley sat in for Claudia Winkleman on her BBC Radio Two show.
The presenter welcomed Kevin and Strictly podcast host Kim Winson onto the show to chat about the upcoming episode of the dance contest.
Kim and Kevin shared their thoughts on the seven couples who remain in the competition.
Each dance duo will be performing a musical theatre themed dance on Saturday night for Strictly’s popular Musical Week.
Kevin made it clear he was looking forward to the episode, saying: “Musical Week is my favourite week because I’m a big musical theatre guy.”
Stacey was keen to know what the two Strictly experts thought about the new change to the judging panel.
She said: “We’ve also got Cynthia Ervio sitting in for Craig because Craig’s poorly.
“I mean, that’s a spectacular choice isn’t it?” Stacey remarked.
“Unbelievable, it’s his first week that he’s never ever been here,” Kim said.
She was referencing the fact Craig’s never been absent from an episode of Strictly since the show first began.
A stunned Stacey replied: “Really? He’s never had a day off since he started?”
“Nope, he is ‘Mr Reliable’. But, unfortunately he’s not here today,” Kim said.
The Strictly podcast host went on to share her thoughts on Cynthia taking Craig’s place on the judging panel this week.
“She’s an outstanding choice. She is ‘Miss Musical Theatre’ isn’t she?” Kim remarked.
Meanwhile, Stacey commented on the fan reaction to the news that Cynthia will be a guest judge on the show.
“Everyone was so thrilled at the prospect of her sat alongside the judges,” she said.
Kevin chimed in, insisting Cynthia is a “great choice” to join the judging panel this week.
He enthused: “I think it’s great, a really wicked choice actually and a really interesting choice.
“I think Strictly are getting so many things right at the moment. They’re making some really good choices I think with the casting across the board.
“I’m so excited to see what she makes of it all,” Kevin added.
Strictly Come Dancing continues Saturday at 6:35pm on BBC One.
