IDRIS Elba has switched the “gritty streets of London” for snow-covered mountains in new snaps from the upcoming Luther film.
The Wire actor, 50, will once again be reprising his role as the titular DCI John Luther in the Netflix movie based on the hit BBC One crime thriller series, which is due for release in early 2023.
And fans may be surprised to see Luther switch from the city life of London and into a new wilderness location in a twist thanks to the film’s “bigger budget”.
In new snaps obtained by Empire Magazine, it sees Idris as Luther striding across snow-covered mountains all while wearing his signature tweed coat.
While a different photo sees the detective in what appears to be an empty train tunnel with Luther no doubt searching for clues to solve his latest case.
Discussing the new location and “bigger budget”, Idris told the publication: “It's really dangerous when expanding from television to film to throw a lot of money at it, and for that moment to change the characteristics of the show.

“I wanted to make sure that even though we had a bigger budget, [we didn’t] distort the parameters of Luther-land too much.”
Idris added of switching the location from the British capital: “We break out of the gritty streets of London, we take it outside of that a little bit. And that’s great.
"It feels like now we’re entering a different life of the Luther experience.”
As well as starring in the film, the actor has also served as a producer with Jamie Payne as director and Neil Cross as writer.
