MAFS UK’s Thomas reveals he has gone sober since filming the E4 dating show

Married At First Sight UK 's Thomas Hartley has bravely revealed that he has decided to go sober since filming the E4 dating show.

Taking to Instagram on Tuesday night, the MAFS UK contestant and mental health care assistant, 31, said that the impact of mixing alcohol with his medication "f**ked him up".

Issuing a statement, Thomas penned: "Hey guys! I didn't make the decision to go sober until after the show. Mixed with my medication alcohol f**ked me up as you can clearly see, this is one of a few reasons I have taken the decision to be sober."

Thomas' mother, Helen, who has been a big part of the show and fans love, shared her support for her son by reposting his message on her own Instagram, writing: "Proud of you."

OK! has contacted Thomas' representative for further comment.

During his time on the show, Thomas married Adrian Anderson and Tuesday's episode left viewers in tears with Adrian's sweet confession to his husband.

At the second dinner party, the couples were asked to leave questions in the Honesty Box to test the other newlyweds' relationships.

Adrian was asked by Thomas: "What one thing would you change about me and why? Be honest, I can take honesty."

To which his husband said: "I would change situations in life that have led you to your defences. I would change every one of them. I would stand there in front of them and bat them away."

With Thomas left in tears as he replied: "Can I just say, I respect you, you've listened and heard me. I just love you as a person, I really care about you."

Fighting back more tears, he added: "You mean the world to me, thank you for having my back" as Adrain reassured with: "That's alright, it's alright."

MAFS UK expert Mel Schilling was also left moved as she said in a separate room: "That is the most beautiful thing I think I've ever heard in all of my time on this experiment.

"Adrian is saying: 'I see you, through all of the drama, all of the behaviour, to you and your pain. And the one thing that makes you behave the way that you do, I want to take that away."

Married At First Sight UK continues at 9pm on E4.
