Mikey North has just signed a new contract with Coronation Street to keep playing Gary Windass.
So, bad boy Gary isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.
Speaking to Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield on Tuesday’s This Morning, Mikey opened up about his character’s storyline and future on the ITV soap.
When asked if his character is ‘safe’, Mikey replied: ‘I hope so Phil, in this climate definitely.
‘I’ve just signed a contract not so long back so I’m there for the next while.
‘I’m loving the stuff they’ve given me. I’ve had a great couple of years, I really can’t complain with the storylines that I’ve had so I am hoping that it’ll continue whenever and wherever that may be.’
Mikey’s character Gary is currently in prison after he was charged for a crime he didn’t actually commit.
He is serving time for his sister Faye Windass (Ellie Leach) who attacked Adam Barlow (Sam Robertson).
‘He’s willing to pay price to keep Faye out of prison,’ Mikey said about his current storyline.
‘I’ve got to defend him – I think anything he has done is for good reasons at heart, it doesn’t often end well for him.’
In Corrie’s latest episodes, it looks like the guilt could be getting the better of Faye after she tells (Samia Longchambon) that living with the guilt is making her ill and she’d rather own up to her crime.
Tim (Joe Duttine) also raises his concerns about Faye as he thinks she might have something to do with the weapon concealed in Gary’s backpack.
This Morning airs daily at 10am on ITV.
