Kensi and Deeks talk about getting ready for the baby on ‘NCIS: Los Angeles’

Kensi (Daniela Ruah) and Deeks (Eric Christian Olsen) really want to have a baby, but things aren’t going as planned. Kensi is having difficulty getting pregnant, so she’s taking fertility drugs. Deeks is trying his best to remain positive, but Kensi is getting frustrated with the process. She’s afraid she will never be able to have a baby. Kensi tries to deal with her stress is by practicing at the gun range, but it doesn’t seem to be helping.

One way Deeks is trying to encourage Kensi is by painting the nursery. “I know we had plans for tonight, but I thought we could toss those plans aside, pick out a color, and paint the remaining room in the house, the nursery,” says Deeks. He tells her it will be fun, but she’s resistant to the idea. Deeks wants to clear out the room and get it ready for their future bundle of joy. “Can I interest you in a future free of moving boxes?” says Deeks.

Kensi doesn’t like that he’s labeling that room the nursery, so he calls it the office, home gym, and the “room of requirement.” Kensi wants to leave the room the way it is, but Deeks says the room is a “peeling eyesore.” She argues that the room looks “rustic.”

Why Kensi doesn’t want to paint the nursery

Painting the nursery bothers Kensi because she’s concerned that if they don’t conceive, the baby’s room will be a constant reminder they aren’t parents. Kensi loves Deeks, but she’s not in the mood for his optimism. She has a lot of doubts and fears and she’s done being positive. In another scene, Kensi tells Deeks it’s time to be realistic about their situation and accept that their dream of having a child might not come true.

“What if we’re never pregnant?” Kensi asks Deeks. “What if we paint that room, and every day that we’re not pregnant we have to look at it? What if we have to walk past it every day, but we’re just waiting for this baby that may never come?”

Advice for Kensi

Kensi works in a high-pressure job. It would benefit her to take time off from work and give her mind and body a chance to relax. The stress of her occupation isn’t helping her situation. Kensi, get some rest and take some of that pressure off yourself. Self-care is key.
