The fifth season of Queen of the South is back in production, and all sorts of clues and titbits have been revealed from the set. A new post on Instagram has confirmed yet another of Teresa’s closest allies will be coming back when the next instalment arrives on the USA Network and Netflix.

Now the upcoming instalment of Queen of the South has finally begun filming, some exciting casting news has been revealed on Instagram.

Following some severe delays following the outbreak of coronavirus in March, production has finally returned to normal with extensive health and safety measures in place.

Teresa Mendoza (played by Alice Braga) will need all the help she can get to take down Judge Lafayette (Cecil Andrews) in the next season of Queen of the South.

Newly awakened from a coma and still mourning the death of her godson Tony Parra (Julian Silva), the drug queenpin of New Orleans faces her biggest challenge yet when the series returns.

As well as her ongoing feud with the Judge, the return of her ex-boyfriend James Valdez (Peter Gadiot) has signalled the arrival of another threat to her operation in Louisiana.

With the potential return of the Vargas family on the horizon, Teresa will have to rely on her right-hand man Pote Galvez (Hemky Madera) and the rest of her loyal team to ensure her survival.

From behind-the-scenes on season five, director and stunt coordinator Ben Bray confirmed a familiar face will be returning when Queen of the South comes back next year.

Although it’s hard to tell behind the pair’s masks and visors, Bray’s new Instagram post revealed Alejandro Barrios will be reprising his role as Chicho in the upcoming instalment.

Chicho played a crucial part in the fourth season as Teresa’s sicario, and, as the action heats up, could be a force to be reckoned with as her journey to become queen continues.

Bray wrote: “Always exciting to see familiar faces on set like the one and only Chicho.

“[Alejandro Barrios is] a talented pro on set and one of the kindest human beings ever!”

Her business threatened, the ruthless and cautious drug supplier will need to surround herself with sicarios and henchmen willing to do her dirty work.

Some fans may have felt Chicho’s place in her inner-circle was threatened after a botched job in the fourth season.

While delivering a new shipment, Chicho is attacked by Teresa’s rival Elias (Christopher Márquez), and is nearly killed.

Thankfully, Chicho survived the ordeal thanks to Pote coming to his aid, but his slip-up threatened to cripple Teresa’s reputation whilst she was in a coma.

However, the sicario remains fiercely loyal to his employer and may prove indispensable as Teresa and the Judge continue to wage war in season five.

Fans were ecstatic to hear the news of Chicho’s return, and took to the comments to thank director Ben Bray for the latest updates.

One follower replied: “CHICHO! Thank you Ben for sharing all these bts pics during your time there! You really spoil us fans!

“I hope all the other directors for the rest of the season share the way you do.”

As filming for season five continues into the holiday season, fans have their eyes open for plenty more clues and announcements to come.

Queen of the South season 4 is available to stream on Netflix.
