Do you remember when Roy Cropper (Davild Neilson) was a creepy stalker in Coronation Street?
We’re not joking.
Last night, viewers were left sobbing as Roy decided to say goodbye to his life in Weatherfield.
The soap icon, portrayed by David Neilson, had been struggling to come to terms with the fact that the gun Abi Franklin (Sally Carman) obtained to shoot Corey Brent (Maximus Evans) was the very same firearm used to kill Natasha Blakeman (Rachel Leskovac).
As Roy departs, we’re taking this opportunity to remind you of his early years on the cobbles.
Deirdre Barlow (Anne Kirkbride) moved into a new flat back in 1995 and met Roy at the same time – who appeared quite over-helpful.
Jamie Armstrong caught Roy reading a postcard Tracy (Kate Ford) sent to Deirdre and called him pathetic, thinking Roy was stalking Deirdre.
The Roy we know and love is a far cry from the man he used to be and a few months ago, David Neilson reminisced about what life was like playing his ‘oddball’ character back in the day.
‘He was this strange guy that stalked Deirdre at the start. He was a real loner and an oddball, one of the notes was he just doesn’t get it but nowadays, he’s turned into Rita! People come into the café for advice and Roy gives them all this wisdom.
Somehow, he’s survived and adapted. Time has flown and it has been extraordinary! I’ve worked with some really great people. I’m 72 as well, probably a lot of it is down to luck!’
Oh Roy, we miss you already.
