Strictly's Anton du Beke's wife cried when he was made a judge as he reveals his ego was in tatters after dancing exit

STRICTLY'S Anton du Beke has revealed that his wife cried when he was made a judge of the show after his ego was left in tatters when he departed first this year.

The 54-year-old dancer was recently given the temporary role while Motsi Mabuse quarantines at home after her emergency trip to Germany.

Having been on the BBC One show for 16 years and performed more than 120 original routines, he was over the moon with the chance to judge the contestants.

And his wife of three years, Hannah Summers, 45, couldn't fight back the tears when he got the call.

The veteran dancer recently told the Daily Mail: "'My wife cried when I told her but I also thought that it would give me something to do for the rest of the series.

"When you're voted off at the beginning you have nothing to do, it's easy not to feel part of the show because you're sitting in the audience watching everyone else dance. So thank goodness they gave me the judging job."

Anton tied the knot with the Chief Marketing Officer back in 2017, and they share two twins together – George and Henrietta, three.

The new role also gave Anton a new found confidence considering he was first out this year.

For the 18th series, Anton was partnered with the first female Home Secretary, Jacqui Smith, but failed to impress the judges with their rendition of the samba.

Reflecting on his role as a judge, he added: "Thank goodness they gave me that job.

"My ego was around my ankles after getting booted off first this year."

Despite being on the show since 2004, Anton is yet to win a show.

Being kicked off first meant that he could play the role of temporary judge, which left many viewers of the show demanding his role be made permanent.

However Motsi will be back on our screens next week after confirming it on last night's show via a video call with Claudia Winkleman.
