Strictlys Tom Fletcher says hes wearing foot thongs for emotional routine

Strictly Come Dancing's Tom Fletcher is shaking things up this weekend by swapping his dancing shoes for foot thongs.

The McFly singer will be taking to the floor with partner Amy Dowden for Musicals Week and can't wait for his next performance.

On the Strictly spin-off show It Takes Two, producers played a clip of him practising his new routine and host Rylan spotted something strange about his attire.

In the clip, Tom could be seen dancing with Amy but strangely without any shoes or socks on.

As they played the clip, Tom said: "Ahhh, I was dreading you showing this."

Rylan then looking at the screen, piped up and said: "Excuse me, are you going full Diana Vickers barefoot?"

Tom's pro partner Amy answered: "We are."

The singer then butted in to mention: "I'm wearing foot thongs actually. Is that how you say it?"

Laughing, Rylan cheekily said: "I'm sorry, it's quarter to seven and I'm on BBC 2…"

Foot thongs are what dancers use to protect their feet if performing without shoes or socks on.

Tom then responded to Rylan's quip and said he would show him after filming was wrapped up.

The conversation then carried on to the performance and why this week in particular was so important for Tom.

This week the star will battle it out to tracks from their favourite musicals, which is ultimately where Tom wanted to 100% make sure he got to in the competition.

Rylan added: "Musicals Week is the one you said you wanted to get to. Why did it mean so much to you? Am I right in saying you started out in musical theatre?"

Tom then explained: "Musical theatre is where I started, I went to theatre school from the age of nine. It is such as huge part of my life and when I first met Amy and we were talking about what I wanted from the Strictly experience and I just said musicals week!"

The pair will perform in front of the judges on Saturday evening and do their best to stay in the competition for another week.

However, the judging panel looks slightly different this weeks Craig Revel Horwood is off work due to catching Coronavirus, with actress Cynthia Erivo taking his place.
