Former Bachelor Colton Underwood knows what it’s like for the American people to focus acutely on his sex life. Underwood’s virginity was a huge part of his season. Audiences couldn’t go a full episode without hearing a sex pun or reference to the reality star’s lack of sexual experience.
Earlier this week, Underwood was interviewed by People about his thought’s on Hannah Brown’s season of The Bachelorette, particularly, his thoughts on the heavy focus on her sexuality.
Colton Underwood says there’s no winning: viewers will criticize whether the lead’s too sexual or not sexual enough
“I mean, listen, there’s no right or wrong in this,” said Underwood. “I got slammed for being a virgin, she gets slammed for whatever she’s doing, you know.”
He continued: “People have their opinions. They’re entitled to them. I know Hannah. She’s not going to let it affect her. She’s standing up for herself and she’s an incredible person, so deserving of love.”
After last week’s unprecedented episode, Brown is entering the week of fantasy suites with four contestants: Peter Weber, Tyler Cameron, Luke Parker, and Jed Wyatt.
“She has a couple tough decisions to make and you know, who knows. I just know that she’s going to take care of herself and she’s been so authentic and so true to herself, and she’s going to continue to do that,” he said.
Kaitlyn Bristowe also recently stood up for Hannah Brown’s candid sex talk
Underwood isn’t the only one who can relate to what Brown is going through. Former Bachelorette Kaitlyn Bristowe faced a great deal of backlash after having sex with one of her contestants prior to fantasy suites.
Recently, on Twitter, Bristowe wrote:
“Women can have sex if they choose, and women can wait till marriage if they choose. Point is, ITS THEIR CHOICE. When you’re making a life altering decision to find a life partner, intimacy can be important. Why is that so hard to understand?”
Bristowe has warned Brown before about what’s to come: “The internet is not kind to women who talk about their sexuality,” she told ET.
“Stay strong, my friend, because you are in for a rough ride, but I am here for you. I really want her to reach out to the past Bachelorettes. From what it looks like, she should especially be reaching out to me. I just want to be there for these girls,” Bristowe told the publication.
