THE HAUNTING of Bly Manor actor Amelia Eve has revealed bosses deleted a heartbreaking scene where Jamie begged Dani to stay.
Other than being first and foremost a creepy ghost story, the series also follows a tragic tale of love between two women who know their time together is limited.
Dani, played by Victoria Pedretti, and Jamie, played by Amelia Eve – or the au pair and the gardener of Bly Manor respectively – struck up a romance during the spooky series.
In one of the most gripping and life changing moments, Dani allows the murderous Lady of the Lake to enter her body in order to save the spirits of the manor and the children she loves.
During the final episode of the season, viewers watch as Jamie and Dani live their life together until the Lady of the Lake finally takes hold of Dani.
Dani begins to see the Lady of the Lake’s reflection but when she wakes up to find herself with her hands around Jamie's neck, she knows it's time to leave and go back to Bly.
If that particular scene isn’t heart wrenching enough, Amelia revealed there was an alternate scene that got cut.
The actress admitted in a recent interview with Hollywood Life that the characters almost had a heartbreaking goodbye instead of Dani sneaking off in the middle of the night.
Amelia said: “She would have done whatever she could to talk her out of that mindset.
“We actually shot a scene where Jamie does wake up. Dani’s leaving, and she begs her to stay. It was such a beautiful scene to shoot. Both of us, Victoria and I, were in bed and just holding each other.
“Even after they had said cut, we were still holding each other. We shared a really beautiful moment in that.
“Unfortunately, it wasn’t in the final edit but I genuinely believe that Jamie would have held her, held her as tightly as she could, and would have tried to bring the Dani back to herself that she knows was in there.
“She [Dani] just found this thing, and she wasn’t willing to let it go.”
Discussing the moment at the very end when Amelia’s character Jamie settles in her hotel chair and leaves the door open for her lost love, she said: “I think deep down she knows she’s with her because she’s keeping Dani alive through the memory of her.
“And I think this routine that she goes through is almost her way of metaphorically leaving the door open, for a sign to come to her.
“I feel like that last moment is… I almost imagine it as, in Jamie’s dream she sees Dani and that’s the moment when she feels her, too.”
The Haunting of Bly Manor is available to watch on Netflix now.
