Tom Felton has revealed the reason why he "couldn't be more different" to his famous Harry Potter character – Draco Malfoy – in real life.

Felton is famed for playing the villainous wizard of Draco Malfoy in the eight beloved Harry Potter films – Harry's bitter enemy at Hogwarts School.

In the magical movies, Slytherin student Draco was known for picking on Harry and his friends, and calling them mean names like "mudblood" – a derogatory name for wizards with muggle blood in JK Rowling's books.

However, Tom said that in real life he's nothing like his notorious Draco role – and that's for one key reason.

Tom spoke about playing Draco at such a young age on Tuesday's One Show (January 11).

He also discussed the recent cast reunion that aired on New Year's Day – called Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return To Hogwarts.

One Show presenter Lauren Laverne said: "You played a famous villain at such a young age. Was that a tricky thing to navigate?"

Tom replied: "Not particularly, I had three older brothers. Gave me plenty of reason to be angry…"

He went on to say that he's dramatically different from Draco as he has loving parents, whereas Draco definitely did not.

Tom continued: "I found it a lot of fun, really. Draco couldn't be more different than I. I've got loving parents, he has terrible ones.

"So it was quite easy, or quite fun rather to jump into a world of playing him. Obviously with a massive amount of help from [director] Chris Columbus and the rest of the cast to sort of dance around."

When asked what Hogwarts house he'd be in in real life, Tom answered: "Definitely Slytherin. Gives you a lot more margin for error.

"I've been told I'm a Slythe-dor,", suggesting that he would be a mixture of a Slytherin student and a Gryffindor.

Lauren said: "Oh, we can hyphen it!"

It comes after Tom appeared in the recent cast reunion for the 20th anniversary of the Harry Potter film franchise.

Speaking on the anniversary, Tom said: "It was very surreal being back in The Great Hall again and seeing all my old school mates, so to speak.

"What was kind of weird and great was how quickly we kind of clicked back into place and normal service was resumed. It was a lot of fun."
