Tyra Banks is quitting hosting Dancing with the Stars after three seasons, admitting that it is “time to graduate from the dance floor” during a recent interview. Reporters cornered the TV presenter while she was out at Whole Foods in Santa Monica on Thursday.

She told journalists that she would be taking a step back from presenting the Disney+ show to focus on her ice cream business SMiZE & DREAM.

The supermodel said: “I feel it’s time for me to really focus on my business and my entrepreneurship, and also producing more TV — but behind the scenes.

“I think it’s time to graduate from the dance floor to the stock market floor… from the ballroom to the boardroom.”

A video clip shows the moment Tyra realised what she had announced as she joked: “Wait, wait, wait — mic drop.”

Reporters quickly asked her if that meant she was officially leaving the programme, which had moved from ABC last year.

“Don’t you think it’s time? Yeah, I think it’s time,” she replied.

“I’m an entrepreneur at heart… I think my heart, my soul, is into my business, it’s also into producing new TV, which we’re working on.

“We have a new business show coming soon. But, I really, really want to focus on my business, and you can’t do that hosting a show.”

Also an executive producer of the show, Tyra said she’ll be focussing on creating things, not presenting them due to her being “crazy, crazy, crazy focused on business.”

Disney+ hasn’t yet made an official announcement about the show, which is set to air its 32nd season, and Tyra’s departure.

She first joined Dancing with the Stars back in 2020 during season 29, replacing long-time host Tom Bergeron.

Before that, she had hosting and producer stints on America’s Next Top Model, The Tyra Banks Show and America’s Got Talent.

Speaking of the show previously, Tyra said she had “always been a fan” of Dancing with the Stars.

“The fun mixed with raw emotion, seeing celebrities push past their comfort zones, the sizzling dance performances.

“It’s always transported me to my days of turning it up 10 notches on the catwalk.

“Tom [Bergeron] has set a powerful stage, and I’m excited to continue the legacy and put on my executive producer and hosting hats.”

Speaking of life on the show, she previously told UsWeekly: “Every host messes up. It’s just normal.

“It’s live TV. If it wasn’t live, there would be no mess-ups.

“Even on America’s Next Top Model, I would mess up and tell my editors to leave it in.

“That’s what makes things human and makes things alive. … It’s better than being like a doll.”
